Unusual Supplies and Market Provisions
Medieval trade routes dictate what kinds of products will be available.
Fortunately for the denizens of Austria, the Danube and the nearby Italians
provide ample opportunity to purchase niceities if the price can be met.
Not all the following items are available year-round, and smaller markets
may have poor inventories; nevertheless, it is possible to procure the following
rather exotic items in larger market towns.
Foodstuffs
- Olives - imported from the coast of the Adriatic and Dalmatia
- Spices, Tropical Fruits - from north africa or Venice
- Salt - plentiful and cheap
- Paprika - plentiful from Hungary
- Grain, fruit, and sugar - from Sicily
- Almonds, olives, and grain - from southern Italy
- Salted herring - from the baltic
- Venison - never available (highly illegal to poach)
Clothing
- Linens - from Augsburg and Ulm
- Cloths - from Florence and Pisa
- Silk - Exported from Venice and Milan
- Hides, leather, and furs - from Hungary
- Wool - from Holland
- Dye - from Venice, Genoa
Animals
- Cattle - from Hungary
- Horses - difficult to purchase
Wrought Iron Goods and Other
- Weapons - from Graz, abundant
- Shields, helmets - from Graz
- Glassware - exported to large markets from Venice and Treviso
- Glazed tiles - from Venice and Ulm
- Wax, enamel - from Hungary
