Adara was born in DR 1349 to a moon elven father and a human mother. Her father, Relandar, lived in the Reaching Woods. Her mother Darsa, an adventuring mage of some ability, was originally from Waterdeep but moved to Scornubel after she ran afoul of some trouble in the City of Splendors. Adaras father and mother were wedded after a brief courtship, and though they loved each other deeply, the circumstances of their differing backgrounds made for difficult times. Relandar spent much time in the Reaching Woods, and shunned the cities of Man. Darsa, on the other hand, preferred an urban environment and would frequently leave Scornubel on some adventure. As a result, Adara spent a lot of time being shuffled back and forth from one parent to the other, rarely enjoying both parents presence. Adara showed an aptitude for magic and her mother took it upon herself to instruct her child in the wizards ways. However, when Adara was but eleven, her mother was killed, apparently as the result of whatever debts she had incurred from her Waterdeep days. Her father tried to withdraw further from the city and humans, but at Adaras request he acquiesced to living on the outskirts of town. Adara entered her teenage years as a particularly rebellious youth. She rebelled against her elvish heritage first, and her fathers strict adherence to elvish traditions. She was involved in some petty theft and vandalism. She had inherited from her mother a fearsome temper and an adventuresome streak. Adara might well have ended up a thief, preying upon the merchants of the Western Heartlands, but for two major influences on her life which occurred within a few short months of each other. First, Adara tried to steal from Chansrin Aluar, an adventuring wizard of Scornubel. Fortunately the kind-hearted mage was more amused than angered by her attempt. She saw Adara as a kindred spirit of sorts, and knew of her late mothers talent, and so took Adara under her wing and began training her as an apprentice. Like Adaras mother, Chansrin was frequently gone for extended periods of time adventuring, but she did at least insist on discipline where magical study was concerned. So Adara was on the path to becoming a mage instead of a thief, but Chansrin was well known as a tempestuous firebrand, so the wizard was hardly the tempering influence Adara needed. That was afforded by the second major influence on Adaras life. Journeying to her father within the Reaching Woods, she happened upon a shrine near a tranquil pool. She found its waters strangely soothing, and spent some time in contemplation there. Jonath, the custodian of the pool and a priest of the Goddess Eldath, approached the young half-elf and struck up a conversation with her. Adara found herself returning time and again to discuss the Goddess philosophy of pacifism and tranquility; this spoke to some part of her that understood she might very well self-destruct without some counter to her stormy nature. After some weeks, she joined the faith of Eldath, and Jonath convinced her to enter the priesthood some months later. Jonath recognized her weakness, and knew well her nature in many ways ran contrary to the faiths teachings, but he also saw in her a student both dedicated to taming her impulses and sharing the philosophy of Eldath with others. Thus Adara gained some control over her temper and her life. She dedicated herself to her studies of both the Eldath faith and the magical instruction of Chansrin Aluar. After Chansrin proclaimed her a wizard in her own right, Adara moved to Iriaebor for two years to study at the Silent Hall, the largest temple dedicated to Eldath in the Western Heartlands. During this time she made several friends, including Rhanna, a priestess of Lathander, and a young man named Geth, a fighter serving as a Red Cloak; she also became somewhat closer to her father as well. Adara was truly beginning to feel at home in Iriaebor when the Matriarch Luaqqa Absalassrin herself approached the half-elf and told Adara that the Faith had need of her. She was to journey north, to Waterdeep and then to Silverymoon for the dedication of a new temple there. Adara agreed, although she would have to leave Iriaebor and her father. Still, her pulse quickened, as something within her looked anxiously to the North, and the adventure it would bring |
